First Multi-Component AMEDD Hospital Activated (2000)

After Operation Desert Storm, the Army Medical Department developed an initiative to assign active-duty medical personnel to Reserve medical units to fill personnel shortages. The 48th Combat Support Hospital, activated in October 2000, is the first unit to be staffed by personnel from the Active and Reserve components. After completing three annual training sessions, the unit mobilized and deployed 128 people to Bagram, Afghanistan, in November 2002.
