Research and Development (J-9)

The DHA Research and Development Directorate (J-9) delivers value to the Military and Veteran communities by shepherding innovative materiel and knowledge products from concept through final product development into the hands of providers and Warfighters. We instill best business practices in the creation of these products with the aim to reduce practice variation, enhance pathways of care, improve health, and increase the lethality of a medically ready force.

Vision

Bridging the future of military health and readiness.

Mission

J-9 leads the discovery, development, and delivery of enhanced pathways to military health and readiness.

For Researchers

We manage the DHA's Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Programs. By encouraging domestic small businesses to engage in Research and Development (R&D) aligned to the Military Health System's needs, the DHA program stimulates high- tech innovation to deliver products that close healthcare gaps while opening up new commercial markets. Through both dual use commercialization and infusion into DoD Programs of Record, small businesses that participate in his program can develop into key partners of the Defense Health Agency. This partnership ensures  the Military Health System will achieve the highest standards of Service Member  readiness, health, and care, while lowering costs.
