Military treatment facility (MTF) providers may identify beneficiaries who potentially have "drug seeking behavior" or are at high risk of harming themselves through accidental overdose of narcotics and/or other high risk medications. Once identified, the provider may consider placing certain restrictions on the pharmacy benefit. The provider has the option to:
- Restrict the beneficiary to a specific pharmacy(s) and/or provider(s) for all medications.
- Restrict controlled medications for a beneficiary to a specific pharmacy or list of pharmacies and/or providers or list of providers.
- Restrict specific medication(s) or class(es) of medications.
The Prescription Monitoring Team at Express Scripts will enter the restrictions into their system. The system will generate warnings to notify MTFs if a prescription conflicts with provider and/or pharmacy restrictions for a beneficiary.
