A form of information science that sits at the intersection of healthcare and information technology. This program office uses clinical information, healthcare data systems, data analytics and modern technology to support clinical care and research efforts designed to improve the health outcomes of extremity trauma and amputee service members.
The Clinical Informatics and Technology Division will build upon existing Military Health System (MHS) Data Warehouses through linkages with existing data systems such as, Department of Defense Trauma Registry, Military Orthopedic Trauma Registry, Naval Health Research Center, the Army Analytics Group, the VA Corporate Data Warehouse and the VA Amputee System of Care Amputee Cube.
Aligning to Electronic Health Records (EHRs), will identify individuals, demographics, and practices to study variations among and effectiveness of acute and rehabilitation care practices, prosthetic technology and services, incidence of complications, mitigation of secondary disabilities, patient outcomes and quality of life.
Aligning with future EHR systems, such as MHS Genesis, that integrates inpatient and outpatient solutions and that will connect medical and dental information across the continuum of care from point of injury, through operational, enroute and garrison care.
Defense and Veterans Affairs Extremity Injury and Amputation Registry
DVEAR was to develop a central and comprehensive DOD-VA longitudinal capability to track the history, diagnosis, treatments and functional outcomes of Service Members and Veterans with extremity trauma and amputations from their point of injury through lifetime care.
The DVEAR currently resides on the Carepoint Platform within the Military Health System Population Health Portal and currently contains basic healthcare data,
However, future plans are to provide an enhanced registry with additional clinical functionality (e.g., dashboards) and automatic data feeds (e.g. MDR, MHS Genesis) to monitor outcomes, facilitate clinical practice guidelines and optimize care.
