Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune recently ranked among the highest-scoring facilities in multiple “Best of the Best” categories in the second-quarter report of the Joint Outpatient Experience Survey, said Dr. Kimberley Marshall-Aiyelawo, Ph.D., director of surveys at the Defense Health Agency’s J-5 Analytics and Evaluation Division.

JOES is an ongoing, unified outpatient survey system – a single survey for all military medical treatment facilities across all services that standardizes patient experience and feedback throughout the Military Health System.

The quarterly report identifies the top-performing clinics, providers, and clerks & receptionists, broken out by primary care and specialty care. The JOES program continuously samples from daily encounter reports received from each MTF, mailing out surveys to beneficiaries within 72 hours. A carefully crafted formula of random sampling ensures that individual providers are statistically valid, taking into account patient volume and fair distribution through each branch of service.

During the second quarter of the current fiscal year, which runs between January 2020 and March 2020, NMC Camp Lejeune’s Primary Care scored 97.9% satisfaction based on 72 completed surveys, with Dr. Nicholas Fiacco ranked among the highest-scoring primary care providers, scoring 100% satisfaction. In addition, the hospital’s urology staff scored 100% satisfaction in the Specialty Care Clerks & Receptionist category.

“Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune’s strength comes from our sense of community, taking care of each other, and our commitment to providing world-class care to our beneficiaries and their families,” said Navy Capt. Reginald Ewing, NMC Camp Lejeune director. “This recognition exemplifies the command’s pledge to deliver health care to those we support and is a reminder of our strong sense of mission. I am exceptionally proud of this team.”

NMC Camp Lejeune is aboard the largest Marine Corps installation on the East Coast, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, with more than 2,500 personnel, including primary care managers, specialty physicians, medical staff, and other health care professionals. The medical center is the first Level III trauma center in the Navy and the first Navy trauma center to serve the local community. NMC Camp Lejeune provides services to approximately 60,000 beneficiaries, comprised of active duty service members, veterans, and their family members.
