Wounded Soldier Family Hotline

Stateside: 1-800-984-8523 or DSN 421-3700
Overseas: DSN (312) 421-3700

The Wounded Soldier Family Hotline (WSFH) was established in March 2007, by the Army Chief of Staff and the Acting Secretary of the Army. The intent of the WSFH was to increase awareness and identify the actions necessary to ensure that our wounded Soldiers and their families received effective and responsive medical care. The WSFH operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year to be accessible, responsive, and effective in helping to resolve Soldier and family issues from anywhere in the world they might arise.

The WSFH is a multi-purposed call center serving as an avenue to gather information about medical care as well as suggest ways we can improve medical support systems that impact on Soldiers and their families. WSFH provides the following services to our patients and customers:

1) To offer wounded, injured or ill Soldiers and family members a way to share their concerns on the quality of patient care they are receiving;
2) To provide senior Army Leaders with visibility on medically-related issues so they can properly allocate resources to better serve Soldiers and family members;
3) To assist in the resolution of Soldier and family member problems/issues;
4) To ensure that medically-related issues are appropriately coordinated with US Army Medical Command Subject Matter Experts (SMEs);
5) To take immediate action on any incoming calls where harm to self or others is expressed, suspected or implied; and 6) to serve as an intake services resource for any MEDCOM-directed surveillance program.

WSFH staff members are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to work with Soldiers and family members. We never close! In addition, the WSFH works in conjunction with the Army Medical Readiness Assistance Program (AMRAP) and it's Ombudsman Program to provide assistance with medically-related issues. Since 2007, WSFH has averaged processing over 15,300 customer calls (both inbound and outbound) per year, while performing over 15 MEDCOM-directed special surveillance programs for the DoD, OTSG, MEDCOM, and APHC in conjunction with the VA.

The WSFH was not established to circumvent the chain of command but rather to give Soldiers and family members another way to identify and resolve issues and concerns. Any type of retribution directed towards those who use the WSFH will not be tolerated. Soldiers and family members may also use the Anonymous Concerns Form to submit their concerns.
